Who's taking care of me?
MEDICAL DOCTOR OR PHYSICIAN
Is a person who is dedicated to science of human health and the care of patients. Medical doctors may be an MD or DO, and are trained in the prevention and treatment of disease and injuries. They are authorized to diagnose conditions, implement treatment plans, and perform surgical procedures.
CERTIFIED NURSE PRACTITIONER (CNP)
Is a registered nurse who has completed specific advanced education (generally a master’s degree) and training in the diagnosis and management of common medical conditions. Nurse practitioners treat both acute and chronic conditions through prescribing medications, physical therapy and ordering test and therapies for patients. Informing patients about their health care and encouraging them to participate in decisions are central to the care provided by CNPs.
PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT (PA)
Physician Assistants are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. As part of their comprehensive responsibilities, PAs conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery, and write prescriptions. Within the physician-PA relationship, physician assistants exercise autonomy in medical decision-making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.
