Hospital Board meeting Aug. 24, 2005

The Paynesville Area Hospital District Board of Directors took the following actions at their meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 24.

•The board reviewed its financial statement for the month of July, which showed a loss from operation of $78,245. Revenue was down, which is typical in the summer, said CFO Kirk Johnson. Through nine months of its fiscal year, PAHCS has shown a profit of $566,753.

•The board approved the following appointments to the active medical staff: George Morris, M.D., family practice; and Zane Craig, D.O., obstetrics/ gynecology; to the ancillary staff: Jennifer Mihm, Pharm.D.; and to the consulting staff: Masood Ghazali, M.D., neurology.

•The board was informed that Dan Lillquist, P.A., has been called up by the Army Reserves and will begin an 18-month active stint starting in October.

•The board accepted a resignation from board member Vickie Ruegemer, who represents the city of Richmond on the board but is purchasing lake property and is moving out of the city. Her resignation from the board is effective at the end of the month. The board will be responsible to appoint a replacement to her position.

The board discussed having Ruegemer continue to serve on the board until a replacement is selected, but several board members objected because the board's bylaws do not appear to allow nonresident people to serve on the board.

Administration was directed to get some nominations to replace Ruegemer from the Richmond City Council. Whomever is appointed would serve through December 2006 and would have to stand for election in November 2006 for a four-year term starting in January 2007.

•The board was informed that PAHCS's new clinic in Cold Spring has been named Chain of Lakes Medical Clinic and is scheduled to open in November 2005.

•The board was informed that the Center for Health and Wellness will hold an open house on Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 4 to 8 p.m.

•The board was informed by CEO Steve Moburg that an agreement has been reached on a new contract with the LPN union.

•The board empowered the personnel committee to negotiate a new contract with Moburg, whose original three-year contract expires on Sept. 15, 2005.
