CARDIOLOGY
The study of the heart and its action and diseases.
Cardiologists
Reasons to see a cardiologist: Chest Pains; Irregular Heart Beat; and Blood Pressure.
What are "stages" of heart conditions?
Answer: The four stages to describe the progession of Heart Failure as a disease:
Stage A: No damage to the heart and no symptoms. These folks simply have a condition that increases their risk for one day developing Heart Disease and Heart Failure. Examples might be high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, or a strong family history of heart problems.
Stage B: Some damage to the heart has taken place, such as a mild heart attack or known blockage of coronary arteries. These people already have heart disease, but have little or nothing in the way of symptoms.
Stage C: There is known damage to the heart, and the patient has begun to develop symptoms. Mild symptoms might be shortness of breath with strenuous activites. More severe symptoms such as fatigue, chest congestion, and swelling keep people from doing many of the things theyd otherwise be doing.
Stage D: This is the stage of constant and chronic symptoms. Stage D Heart Failure leaves people short of breath even when they arent doing anything. Only half of people at this stage can expect to be alive in a year.
